Georgina Amat and Ivar Sverrisson, both actors and dancers, founded the company in 2014. At the time they were working at The Norwegian Opera in Oslo, but they shared the same ambition to start a company where they could creatively produce their own projects. They aspired to compose artistic proposals that were experimental and confirmative to their inquisitiveness and dedication to the art of theatre and dance. RukRuk Company was founded with this in mind and their experimental approach is still a fundamental part of their work and identity.
After a few months Sara Serrano joined the company as founder, producer, dramaturg and artistic director. Sara and Ivar had previously worked together at productions for Jo Strømgren Kompani and RukRuk Company became a place where they could continue their collaboration.
RukRuk Company premiered its first production “The Imperfect Adventures of Don Quijote” in April 2015 at Grusomhetens Teater in Oslo. The project was founded by Kulturrådet and the Spanish Embassy of Norway. Shortly after the premiere of their first production Caroline Lea and Joao Pamplona joined RukRuk Company as permanent members of the group. The company has since then worked with numerous collaborators, some of which are members of RukRuk Company today.
Georgina Amat and Caroline Lea are artistic directors of RukRuk Company; they lead and organize the company, they articulate their artistic direction and coordinate the production process. Within the company the roles of each member are indeterminable and can shift depending on the project and with whom they collaborate.
